24th January 2010
To all Yelverton members and staff a happy new year.
Before the bad weather set in, our golf course was in the finest condition I can ever remember. So well done George and his crew, it
must have been difficult coping with the conditions of the past few weeks.
In
view of last Tuesdays General Committee meeting, there are a few things
I would like to highlight, that will affect our financial planning. As
you know we intend to replace the dilapidated Portakabin used by our Greens
staff. With the very generous help and expertise of Dave Terry, in drawing
and submitting the plans, we have now received planning permission. This
facility will provide long term, fit for purpose, modern
amenities that meet H&S requirements. While
at the same time enable us to fulfil our duty of care to our workforce.
The
initial aim will be to construct the building fitted for, but not with,
the necessary toilet, drying room, shower etc. In other words get the
superstructure in place, and then phase the installation and cost of internal
fitting over the next one or two years. We have costed the material only,
for the completion of the project.
A good way of keeping labour cost
to a minimum, would be to ask members, of suitable trades, to volunteer
their time. We will need to determine how
we can "reward" these volunteers.
In conjunction with this
project, are other infrastructure issues that require our attention,
such as, the refurbishment of the Ladies locker room, and the priority
replacement of the dinning room windows which are leaking as the proverbial
bucket. All of the above will need careful financial planning and budgetary
control.
Last
week at the fiance meeting the house report statement read as follows,
Catering year 2008, Net Loss £19,754.
Catering year 2009 Net Loss £4,203. This was fantastic news, an
improvement of £15,551 on last year's figures. With bar profits
added, the club has gone from £9,620 in the red, to £8,280
profit. Extremely well done, and a big thank you to Catering manager
Debbie and all her team, also our professional bar staff.
At that meeting
I strongly recommended we should not increase annual fees this year,
this was agreed and passed by Finance. It was brought to the General
Committee, they looked on the recommendation favourably.
No decisions
have been yet made about how we intend to proceed with the Amenity works.
However, I intend to discuss during the next few weeks the way forward.
With your support, which I have had all year (I am
extremely grateful) we will progress.
Regards
Mike
