Welcome
from Elizabeth Calder, Lady Captain 2010
After only three years at the club I found myself acting captain for the
latter part of last year - whch stood me in good stead for taking over as
ladies captain in march. However I relish the job and appreciate having
what the president refers to as a "strong back row" - namely the
ladies committee.
We are fielding three teams this year for the Creasy bowl, Still cup and
Presidents trophy. I am hopeful that our President's trophy team will perform
well. We have changed our team colour from insipid lemon
to bright raspberry.
Off the course the upgrading of the ladies locker room
remains an issue. Every captain for the last few years has sent in plans
to deal with what is an eyesore in the clubhouse and an embarrassment when
visiting teams are here. For reasons that are unclear nothing has materialised
- but I am optimistic that with the support of the men's captain and the
general and finance committee this will be remedied and work can at least
commence, based
on yet another set of plans.
Another outstanding issue to be addressed is
that I do not have a vice captain - and therefore no one to take over from
me in 2011. We are not a big ladies section. When we have a big turnout for
the most popular competitions there are never more than 40 members - and
a significant number of them have already been captain. We are working on
this problem. Meanwhile I wish everyone a good year on and off the course.
