SECRETARY
To be honest, I would not want this job for all the tea in China. The
perception of a club Secretary’s role changes from one member
to another, and the tasks he is supposed to achieve, changes from
member to member. I have pretty much come to the conclusion, that
without a decent Secretary, the Captain’s job would be more
difficult than it is and the club would rely on volunteers, doing
their best. Stewart, I can confirm, does not live in the clubhouse,
he does not work 24 hours, 7 days a week and yes he does play golf
during what are again perceived as working hours by some and not
by others. What I can also confirm though, is that Stewart does many
more hours than contracted to do so, and yes adds professionalism
and dignity to a position where you can’t do right for wrong.
Stewart is highly respected by other golf clubs and deserves our
support, to help him and the staff to help us. Thank you Stewart
for all of your help and support this year, and this will come as
a surprise to some of the members, but also for the canny sense of
humour you have shown. It’s been good working with you.
