Veteran’s Section

The Club has a very lively bunch of Veteran or Senior Golfers known as Yelverton Vets; there are currently 90 in the group but there is room for more.

Membership of the Section is open to Yelverton Club Members that are at least 60 years old and that have an ‘Active’ handicap.

When do we meet?

The Vets meet at 08:30 every Wednesday morning in the Clubhouse Lounge for a ‘Roll-Up Draw’; the 1st Tee is reserved for them on Wednesday mornings from 08:45 until 11:00. The competition round may be a 4BBB, a Texas Scramble, a 3-Ball (1, 2 or 3 to count), or whatever the Vet’s Captain should decide for that day.

Maintaining an ‘Active Handicap’

The Vets also arrange an Individual Handicap Qualifying Round played from the White Tees on the first Wednesday in the months March through to October. This provides them with an opportunity to maintain an ‘Active Handicap’ as required by the English Golf Union but away from the rigors of the more serious Club Medal Rounds.

Is there anything else to tempt you?

Of course there is. As if all of these activities were not enough the Vets have a full programme of friendly ‘Representative Matches’ against the Vet’s / Senior’s Sections of many other clubs in Devon and Cornwall. This programme normally begins in late March with a Home match against Stover GC; this is followed by another 33 ‘friendly’ matches against other clubs during the year, and the programme ends in October with the Away Match against Staddon. This gives all the vets an opportunity to play in one or more of the matches at home or away.

Do you want to join us?

The process is simplicity itself. Just turn up in the Clubhouse Lounge on a Wednesday morning before 08:30 and ask to be introduced to the Vet’s Captain, the Vet’s Secretary or anyone of the Vet’s Committee. There is a small annual membership subscription of £10. You will be sure of a warm and friendly welcome.

Alternatively you can go to the Vet’s Contacts page with the contact telephone numbers of the current Officers and Committee of Yelverton Vets.

Visiting Veterans or Senior Golfers

If you are visiting the area we may be able to arrange for you to join us in one of the Wednesday morning competitions. All you will need is an ‘Active’ handicap issued by your Home Golf Club; you will be required to pay the appropriate green fee but playing with a member may qualify for a discount.

Please contact us; you are guaranteed a warm welcome.
