Ladies v Veterans v Juniors Trophy
Monday 26th July 2010
The beginning of the School Summer holidays brought with it the staging
of the Annual "Ladies v Veterans v Juniors" Challenge Match,
which was not staged in 2009 as the Juniors could not raise a side. The "Vets" were
therefore looking to defend a Trophy that they had in effect held for two
years!
Played in excellent spirits, this Individual and Combined "Team" event
brought together 3 of the Club's Sections with the Ladies & Veterans
also sharing the cost of the Juniors' post-match meal, a gesture that
was very appreciated by all the participating Juniors. They did not
however, show any mercy when it came to the Competition itself that
saw the 8
playing Juniors amass an amazing 322 Stableford points between them,
which averages out at more than 40 points per individual! The Veterans
(273 points) pipped the Ladies (264 points) to the Runners-Up slot,
although everyone was agreed that the day itself was a great success
no matter
what the eventual outcome!
The Victorious Junior Team (pictured below)
included from Left to right, Kieran Alder, Josh Reeday, James Dawson,
Dan Rosevear (Team
Captain
for the Day), Henry Chamberlain, Iain Couper, Rob Lilley and Frazer
Reed. Following the event, these lads, who were all "genuinely" handicapped
beforehand, will now have to get used to revised handicaps, which
collectively see them 11 shots lower than they started the day!!
It
was a tribute to the rest of the team that even without their "Star
Performer" the score of 277 amassed by the remaining 7 individuals
was good enough to have won the event but special mention must go to
Junior Vice Captain, Josh Reeday (5 Handicap, pictured below) who played
some superb golf to amass an impressive 45 points following his round
of 66 Gross (61 Net), which included 5 birdies, 3 of them two's! Also
pictured are Teresa Holt & Bryan Blaber (Ladies & Veterans
Individual Winners) who both came in with a respectable 39 points apiece.
Teresa
and Bryan also had the pleasure of collecting the prize for the "Best
Combined Team", i.e. Lady/Vet/Junior, as they were joined in the "39
Club" by playing partner Kieran Alder (Pictured Below) who ably
assisted the team to a total stableford score of 117 points, which equates
to 9 under par. Not finished there however, Teresa also scooped the Prize
for the Ladies "Nearest the Pin" on the 6th hole, whilst
the Veteran's equivalent prize was collected by Dennis Voisin and Dan
Rosevear
for the Juniors.
Finally, whilst everyone should be congratulated for their participation
and effort, special mention must go to Graham Plumb (Veteran's Captain)
and Elizabeth Calder (Ladies Captain) for their organisation in advance
of the event and efforts on the day itself, one that will no doubt
be keenly contested when it is repeated in 2011.
