Greens Renovation Work
August / September 2009

Greens renovation work has been scheduled for week commencing 24th August and will be completed by no later than 4th September. The weather and Club diary will have a bearing on timing. We will try to carry out the tasks with as little disruption to play as possible.

In order to carry on improving and keep our greens here at Yelverton in good condition, certain cultural practices need to be carried out to ensure the sustained health of the grass plant.

To gain optimum benefit from these practices, timing is absolutely crucial. Towards the end of August / beginning of September is the optimum time to encourage seed germination and to encourage timely recovery from the works.

Greens Renovation maintenance tasks and reasons!

Hollow-coring

To physically remove and reduce “Thatch” levels. (Thatch is the top-layer of fibrous dead and living organic / vegetative material which can effect surface drainage, firmness and harbour turf-grass diseases)

Relieve compaction.

Allow Oxygen to enter soil profile.

Encourage soil exchange. (Introduce sandy dressing).

Over-seeding
To increase population of desired finer-leaf, indigenous grasses.

Top-Dressing
Soil Exchange.

Dilution and natural degradation of Thatch. (Encourage Aerobic Microbial Activity).

Cover seed to encourage germination.

Create true, smooth, firm surfaces.

Thanks for your patience and co-operation.
